#ZeroWasteWeek is a commitment to reducing landfil

#ZeroWasteWeek is a commitment to reducing landfill waste and preserving resources. To bring awareness to this initiative, we wanted to highlight a critical plan which helps keep Winnipeg clean, reduces waste, and helps protect the environment by ensuring things get reused or recycled whenever possible.

The City of Winnipeg (City) is currently finalizing the recommended updates to the Comprehensive Integrated Waste Management Strategy (CWIMS), the plan for managing garbage and recycling. During Phase 1 of engagement, working with the City and Dillon Consulting, we helped lead an engagement process focused on understanding what is working well, and what may require improvement when thinking about garbage and recycling services. Findings and input from Phase 1 public engagement helped Dillon develop proposed recommendations to better reduce and manage the City’s waste. Phase 2 of engagement asked Winnipeggers’ thoughts on the proposed recommendations to help finalize the strategy. Feedback received during engagement is being considered as the team works towards Council review in 2025.

Getting the kids ready for school next week has us

Getting the kids ready for school next week has us thinking about the recent opening of the UWSA Day Care green space. This collaborative, Indigenous-focused design included the voices of the @theuwsa Day Care community, UWSA Indigenous Advisory Circle, Elder Valdie Seymour, and collaboration with Indigenous designers Destiny Seymour @indigo_arrows and Mamie Griffith.

It’s great to see how cultural elements and play features come together to create a truly engaging space for little ones. This phase includes new wood climbing structures and balance logs representing the elements, a canoe that will soon be paddling a painted river, sand bars, and a custom ‘lake’ with infant turtle climber alongside Indigenous plantings. Based on Elder Valdie Seymour’s teachings the play space provides opportunity for storytelling and active play. This is just the beginning as these built features will be expanded upon through land-based learning and additional interpretive elements.

Unveiled in October 2023, the Rotary Peace Park in

Unveiled in October 2023, the Rotary Peace Park in Kenora is a project with deep significance for the community. Envisioned by the Rotary Club of Kenora in 2021, with later collaboration from the Ontario Loved Ones Commemoration Committee, the park was created to encourage peace and reconciliation.

Natural materials are incorporated throughout the site framing a beautiful red granite monument honouring MMIWGT2S+, and the Rotary Peace Pole, an international symbol of peace, creating a welcoming park to gather and connect with loved ones and community.

It’s Trellis Tuesday! Ok, we may have made that one up 🤭 but one of our designers was looking for trellis projects we’ve done in the past and our Teams chat blew up with these beautiful photos, so we just had to share.

It was an honour for HTFC to attend the Treaty Fiv

It was an honour for HTFC to attend the Treaty Five Summit at Lower Fort Garry last Wednesday. We were there to support York Factory First Nation Elder, Flora Beardy, in sharing the Kitaskeenan Kaweekanawaynichikatek - Our Land We Want To Protect project. We heard from other leaders on Indigenous land protection and stewardship, including Stephanie Thorassie from the Seal River Watershed Initiative and Chief Heidi Cook of Misipawistik Cree Nation.

Thank you to the Summit of Treaty Five Sovereign Nations @tfao.inc for hosting a beautiful event!

Landscape designer Omar took summer student Rielle

Landscape designer Omar took summer student Rielle out in the field for some contract administration and mentorship recently. Summer is a busy time for us as we are visiting job sites ensuring everything has been built and planted according to specifications 🌲

1. Reviewing the site plan in preparation for site review at Kenaston Village. We are doing a redevelopment of the existing duck pond with new features.

2. At the end of the 1-year warranty period it’s time to inspect the spruce trees at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Winnipeg Temple.

3. Rielle comparing construction detail drawings to the built work at Seasons B5 during a 30-day maintenance period review.

4. When work involves trips out in the summer sun 😊
