From 2009 to 2013, HTFC worked with the Rainy River First Nations to formulate land use and resource management policies for approximately 15,000 acres of land received as part of the First Nations’ 2005 Surrender Claim Settlement.
HTFC conducted background research and analysis associated with the land parcels, including access, existing land use, adjacent land use, third party interests and terrain characteristics.
We worked closely with a Community Coordinator and Steering Committee, held discussions and interviews with community Elders, and prepared and analyzed findings from a door-to-door community survey.
This Land Use Plan provides recommendations regarding program development, future relationships with municipalities, potential land use management opportunities, and interim land use policies.
