On World Town Planning Day, held November 8 every

On World Town Planning Day, held November 8 every year, planners and communities all over the world come together to celebrate how good planning improves the lives of people and benefits society at large, creating places to live, work, and play together.

We support initiatives like bringing Charles T. Brown, founder and CEO of the planning firm Equitable Cities, to Winnipeg to bring fresh ideas on how to practice intersectional planning. Charles’ keynote presentation addressed how transportation systems, in a North American context, underserve and disproportionately harms vulnerable populations.

Thanks to our friends Green Action Centre and Peg City Car Co-op for organizing this insightful talk and subsequent tours around the city.

We’re happy to share that Rielle Ettawacappo is

We’re happy to share that Rielle Ettawacappo is the 2024-2025 FAUM recipient of the HTFC Canadian Indigenous Planning & Design Fellowship!

Rielle is in her first year of the Masters of Landscape Architecture Program @umanitoba, where she is currently serving as the Indigenous representative for the Landscape Architecture Student Association and the treasurer and social media lead for the Indigenous Design and Planning Students Association. She is also the co-editor on the upcoming IDPSA publication, Voices of the Land: Echoing Currents.

As she prepares for her practicum, Rielle looks forward to exploring the connections between landscape architecture and city planning, and the creation of inclusive spaces that honour Indigenous culture and promote community resilience. We have had the pleasure of working with Rielle over the last several months as Planning & Design Intern at HTFC, and look forward to supporting her research as she pursues her Master’s degree!

We are excited that Phase 1 of the Peter Sawatzky

We are excited that Phase 1 of the Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Park at the Riverbank Discovery Centre in Brandon has broken ground! We have been working on the design in collaboration with Peter Sawatzky, The Loch Gallery, Brandon Riverbank, and the City of Brandon for a sculpture park at the Brandon Discovery Centre. Phase 1 will include the installation of the first three sculpture nodes:

The caribou crossing node, located next to the Discovery Centre, forms the main entry into the park and will feature the incredible caribou crossing sculpture on a raised plinth, and information about the sculpture garden and the artist.

The curious black bear node, located at the midpoint of the garden along the recently installed sculpture park path, will feature the curious black bear sculpture at ground level, encouraging visitors to get closer to the sculpture as it peeks out of a grove of raspberry, gooseberry, and blueberry shrubs.

The jack rabbit node, located within the soon to be completed Elanor Kidd Garden at the Discovery Centre, will feature the jack rabbit sculpture on a low plinth along a garden path, nestled between shrubs and perennials that will be installed and maintained by the Brandon Garden Club (this earlier rendering shows a different sculpture in place).

Get to know us as we shine the spotlight on a member of our team.

Lloyd Isaak / Senior Landscape Architect

Lloyd brings a wealth of knowledge and over thirty years of project management and architectural engineering technology experience to the firm, spanning public and private sector work. He is the office storyteller with a story or sage piece of advice for every situation, and readily jumps into any project challenge with a smile. A true family man, he spends as much time as possible with his family at the lake and always looks forward to their annual trip to Mexico.

Lloyd is a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and has been involved, at the highest level, in delivering projects and programs in a world-class river corridor through the heart of a vibrant and growing city. The Saskatchewan office and all our team members benefit from his support and encouragement.

1. What’s one thing you can’t get through the day without?
One black coffee in the morning – can never be too strong

2. What’s the thing you’re most likely to forget at home?
The grocery list.

3. What is the most surprising or fun tool you get to use for your job?
Not a tool, but I get to collaborate with fascinating people, specifically on the River Landing Project: a toxicologist whose explorations in remediating a highly contaminated site were incredibly interesting and surprising, and an Artist in Residence who integrated community art into the Riverfront Projects.
