In 2012, Winnipeg Folk Festival retained HTFC to complete the phased implementation of their award-winning master plan, which was completed by HTFC in 2006. The work included sustainable transportation facilities, reforestation, sculptural wayfinding elements, gathering spaces, landmarks and venues. Over 95% of the materials used in the project were reclaimed, requiring intensive collaboration with the construction manager and exceptional flexibility from the designers. The forms in the design are inspired by the common ground between musical harmonies and patterns in nature, creating places that feel at home in a forest clearing. Sculptor Jess Dixon joined the team to add an appropriate touch of whimsy to the new structures. The Winnipeg Folk Festival draws over 80,000 people to Birds Hill Park annually.
The village tower structure received the Jury’s Choice from the Prairie Wood Design Awards in 2015.
