Cumberland Corridor

In late winter, the Spence Neighbourhood Association (SNA) retained HTFC to assist with the planning and design work for an envisioned Cumberland Corridor (Maryland Street to Balmoral Street). The intention was to produce a conceptual plan for park space along the corridor, based on feedback from the community and stakeholders.

The Cumberland Corridor exists as a series of small green spaces that were created when Notre Dame Avenue was split into two one way streets. HTFC and the SNA worked with the City of Winnipeg, community members and local businesses and organizations to realize the potential of transforming this awkward set of green triangles into a biking and walkway that could serve commuters as well as the Spence community. Consultation included a stakeholder workshop, a community charette and survey and even a Cumberland colouring sheet. The Cumberland Corridor Conceptual Design will be shared with the community and planning is currently underway to begin implementing some design aspects this year. Stay tuned for more news as we continue to work with the City of Winnipeg, the SNA and youth to design and activate a prime park location on the Cumberland Corridor in May!
