Starting in 2011, HTFC assisted YFFN in negotiating a multi-stakeholder agreement between Manitoba Hydro and four other First Nations, which resulted in the establishment of the Kischi Sipi Namao Committee. This Committee is committed to implementing measures to protect and enhance sturgeon populations in the Lower Nelson River from Kelsey Generating Station to Hudson Bay.
To support YFFN’s membership on this Committee, HTFC collaborated with YFFN in designing and conducting an Indigenous knowledge study about lake sturgeon in 2012. HTFC continues to provide advice and support to YFFN representatives on this Committee. HTFC also provides support and advice to YFFN as a Keeyask Partner and member on the Keeyask Monitoring Advisory Committee and Keeyask Caribou Coordination Committee.
