Kilcona Park Master Plan

HTFC along with Prairie Architects, MMM Group and MNP, led an intensive consultation process to develop a long term plan for the Kilcona Park landfill site. The Kilcona Park plan will secure greater financial sustainability and create an amenity more reflective of Winnipeg’s current and projected recreational needs. In order to make better use of the landfill that occupies 155 acres (38% of the park), HTFC prioritized improving drainage and vegetation cover. The plan includes new amenities like an expanded dog park trail network, methane-fuelled dog waste disposal stations, and a bike/snowboard four-season terrain park.

HTFC has extensive experience in redevelopment of landfill sites. In 1987, HTFC completed a comprehensive after-use study for the Brady Road landfill facility for the City of Winnipeg. The study recommended a preferred development concept based on research and analysis of site conditions, land use, future tends, operational considerations, evaluation of potential after use and alternative development concepts. The report included recommendations for topography, landform, drainage, cover and vegetation.

Subsequently, HTFC was retained to develop an after-use and landform concept for the Summit Road Landfill in Winnipeg.
