Over the last three decades, HTFC has worked on various projects with Sagkeeng First Nation related to community land use and indigenous knowledge, remedial works, and hydro-electric development in its traditional territory.
In 2012, HTFC collaborated with Sagkeeng First Nation to undertake an indigenous knowledge study designed to support the First Nation in its consultation process with Manitoba Hydro on the Point du Bois Spillway Replacement Project. HTFC also conducted a technical review of the project’s environmental assessment documents for the First Nation. More recently, HTFC has supported Sagkeeng First Nation in the implementation of monitoring activities and the design of Sagkeeng’s longer-term traditional knowledge monitoring program to track the effects of the Pointe du Bois Spillway project on its traditional lands.
